Actor Jack Axelrod, renowned for his stint on General Hospital in the 1980s, passed away at the age of 93 due to natural causes, a representative confirmed on Saturday.
Jennifer Garland, Axelrod’s representative, confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that the esteemed actor breathed his last in Los Angeles on November 28. She recalled her time spent with him during his final years, mentioning that Axelrod didn’t have immediate family.
In her statement, Garland reminisced about the actor’s retirement years, highlighting his fondness for spending time outdoors, sketching, reading news articles, and reciting Shakespearean sonnets.
Before embarking on his acting career, Axelrod served as a corporal in the United States Army, stationed in Germany from 1953 to 1955. He later pursued studies at the University of Berkeley and became a licensed architect in Washington state. Additionally, Axelrod honed his acting skills under the tutelage of Uta Hagen in New York City.
While maintaining his profession as an architect, Axelrod engaged in off-Broadway productions such as Macbeth and Gandhi. His film debut occurred in Woody Allen’s 1971 movie, Bananas. Throughout his career, he graced notable films like Vice, Hancock, and J. Edgar.
Axelrod’s television career included a significant role as Victor Jerome in 40 episodes of General Hospital. He made guest appearances on several popular shows, including Modern Family, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Ray Donovan, NCIS, and Dexter, among others.
