Actress Emily Wickersham recently revealed a striking hair transformation, showcasing a new blonde look on Instagram, but without referencing her former NCIS character, Ellie Bishop.
While her post didn’t directly allude to her role on the long-standing police procedural, fans couldn’t help but draw parallels and share their thoughts on the change.
“It’s reminiscent of Ellie Bishop; I miss her,” one fan commented, while another added, “Brings back memories of your NCIS years.”
Speculations arose among some fans about a potential return to the show following Wickersham’s shift from brunette to blonde. “Is this a hint for an NCIS return?” speculated one user. “Please come back to NCIS; you are truly missed,” wrote another.
Wickersham portrayed Ellie on the show from 2013 to 2021, transitioning from a recurring character to a mainstay until her departure in season 18. Her exit storyline involved her character leaving under the guise of being dismissed for leaking confidential documents, which later revealed her involvement in a long-term undercover mission, leaving room for a potential comeback.
Fans had previously speculated about Ellie’s return, discussing possibilities on Reddit threads last year. Some predicted her eventual return to resolve her open-ended exit storyline.
NCIS was officially renewed for another season in February 2023, indicating the return of the series for the 2023-2024 television season. The renewal announcement on Instagram included a montage showcasing beloved characters, hinting at more crime-solving, takedowns, and explosions in the upcoming season.
Although no specific release date for NCIS season 21 has been disclosed, CBS confirmed the show’s return in its usual Monday night time slot in the US.
NCIS airs on CBS in the US, and its Seasons 1-20 are available for streaming on Disney+ in the UK.
