Mark Harmon is set to return to his iconic character, Leroy Jethro Gibbs, as the narrator in a new NCIS prequel series titled NCIS: Origins. Although Harmon left the original NCIS series in 2021, he will be involved in this new show that explores Gibbs’ early career as a special agent in 1991. The prequel will focus on Gibbs’ time at the fledgling NCIS Camp Pendleton office, where he builds his place on a gritty team led by NCIS legend Mike Franks. Harmon’s son, Sean Harmon, who previously portrayed a younger version of Gibbs, will not be reprising his role in NCIS: Origins. The series, scheduled for the 2024-2025 season, will be narrated by Mark Harmon and produced by both him and Sean Harmon. The show will be co-showrun by David J. North and Gina Lucita Monreal, who also co-wrote the pilot episode, and will join the ranks of other NCIS spinoffs.
