Mark Harmon is set to reprise his role as Leroy Gibbs in the NCIS universe with the upcoming spinoff series, NCIS: ORIGINS.

Amy Reisenbach, the president of CBS Entertainment, described NCIS: ORIGINS as a departure from previous NCIS iterations, with a grittier and more serialized approach. Set in the 1990s, the series aims to capture a different era while staying true to the essence of the franchise.
According to a synopsis shared by Screenrant, NCIS: ORIGINS will follow a young Leroy Gibbs as he embarks on his journey to becoming the seasoned investigator fans know from the original series. It will explore his relationships with past partners and colleagues.
Both Mark Harmon and his son Sean are involved in the series, with NCIS writers and producers David J. North and Gina Lucita Monreal contributing to the storytelling.
NCIS: ORIGINS will not only focus on Gibbs but also delve into the stories of Mike Franks and Special Agent Vera Strickland, expanding the narrative universe. Narrated by Mark Harmon, the series will kick off in 1991, showcasing Gibbs’ early career at the NCIS Camp Pendleton office under the leadership of NCIS legend Mike Franks.
Sean Harmon, who previously portrayed the younger version of Gibbs in recurring episodes, expressed excitement about exploring his character’s earlier years and stepping into a producing role alongside his father and the creative team.
