Mark Harmon, known for his role in NCIS, recently shared the charming story of how he arranged his first date with his wife of 36 years, actress Pam Dawber.
In an interview with PEOPLE, Harmon recounted that although a friend had offered to organize a group outing for them, he opted for a more direct approach. He decided to cold-call Dawber to ask her out, seeking a chance for a one-on-one conversation.
“I said, ‘Can I just call? Can I get a number and just cold call?’ And so I did,” Harmon recalled.
Upon dialing, he initially reached Dawber’s answering machine but started leaving a message proposing a casual cup of coffee together. However, Dawber picked up mid-message.
“We went out that night and we’re together ever since,” Harmon shared, revealing that they tied the knot exactly a year later.
Dawber is recognized for her role in Mork & Mindy alongside Robin Williams and made a brief appearance in NCIS alongside her husband. The couple shares two children: Sean, an actor, and Ty, a screenwriter.
Since Harmon’s departure from NCIS, he has delved into writing. His debut historical non-fiction book titled Ghosts of Honolulu: A Japanese Spy, a Japanese American Spy Hunter, and the Untold Story of Pearl Harbor is set to be released later this month. The book narrates the true story of Japanese-American spy Douglas Wada and his intelligence gathering for the US Navy post-Pearl Harbor attack.
