NCIS: Los Angeles alum Daniela Ruah is returning to the NCIS universe in a new capacity, stepping behind the camera as a director following the conclusion of the spin-off series last year.
Ruah, known for portraying Kensi Blye from 2009 to 2023, will take on the directorial role for one episode of the main NCIS set to air in March. Additionally, she will direct an episode of NCIS: Hawai’i, scheduled to be filmed next month and broadcast in April, according to reports from Deadline.
Expressing her excitement, Ruah stated, “Kensi was born as a character on NCIS, 15 years ago, so now to be able to step onto that set again, as a director, with that incredible cast and crew, is an absolute honor. So many familiar faces and people I love, and they’ve welcomed me with open arms. It’s like coming home.”
While this isn’t her directorial debut, having previously directed an episode of NCIS: Los Angeles a few years ago, it’s unclear whether Ruah will make a cameo appearance as Kensi, who was revealed to be pregnant in her last appearance on the show.
In a surprising turn of events, Mark Harmon, despite earlier indications that he wouldn’t return to the franchise, confirmed his comeback as the narrator and producer of NCIS: Origins. Sean Harmon, his son, expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “The character of Gibbs has been an important part of my life for 20 years, both in watching my father craft the role and previously having the honor to play young Gibbs myself. I always felt there was a tale worth telling about his earlier years, so I am thrilled to be stepping into a producing role alongside Gina, David, and my dad as we tell this story and reveal a new side of this beloved character.”
NCIS is currently airing on CBS in the US, while Seasons 1-20 are available for streaming on Disney+ in the UK.
