Angus Mitchell, aged 53, the sole son of the renowned hairstylist and co-founder of John Paul Mitchell Systems (JPMS), Paul Mitchell, has tragically passed away.
Reports from TMZ revealed that Angus was discovered in the pool of his residence in Honolulu, Hawaii, early on Wednesday morning. Despite efforts made, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The exact cause of his death has not been officially disclosed.
The day before his demise, Angus had shared snippets of his life on Instagram, posting videos from a music-filled evening spent with friends at his home. These posts now serve as a poignant reminder of his final hours.
After inheriting his father’s stake in JPMS following Paul Mitchell’s passing due to pancreatic cancer in 1989, Angus not only carried forward his father’s legacy but also established his own identity within the hairstyling industry. He underwent formal hairstyling education and drew inspiration from his father’s illustrious career to refine his skills.
In 2010, Angus Mitchell opened the Angus Mitchell Salon in Beverly Hills after years of hairstyling work in Hawaii. He contributed significantly to JPMS, not only in business management but also as a recognized model and educator in the hairstyling community.
On a personal note, Angus had three marriages, with his most recent being to his wife, Mara. His last Instagram post showcased a family celebration during New Year’s, a poignant moment in hindsight. The post has now become a space for heartfelt tributes, with many expressing shock and sorrow.
One commenter wrote, “Heartbroken. Such an awesome, sweet, hilarious, generous man and family. I’m in disbelief.” Another conveyed, “Rest In Peace Angus. Thoughts and prayers with his loved ones.” Angus is survived by his wife, Mara, and his son, Dylan, from his second marriage to Sian.
