Shocking: Mark Harmon Absent from NCIS Season 20 Opening Credits!

In Season 19 of NCIS, Mark Harmon’s character, Leroy Jethro Gibbs, had his last on-screen appearance in the fourth episode. However, Harmon continued to lead off the opening credits throughout the season, leaving fans wondering if his name would remain there for Season 20.

As Season 20 commenced with the Hawai’i crossover on September 19, Harmon’s name was notably absent from the opening credits. Instead, the sequence began with Sean Murray (Timothy McGee) and followed through with Wilmer Valderrama (Nick Torres), Katrina Law (Jessica Knight), Brian Dietzen (Dr. Jimmy Palmer), Diona Reasonover (Kasie Hines), David McCallum (Dr. Donald “Ducky” Mallard), Rocky Carroll (Leon Vance), and Gary Cole (Alden Parker).

When questioned about Harmon’s continued presence in the opening credits at the close of Season 19, executive producer Steven D. Binder mentioned that they hadn’t yet determined this aspect. Binder clarified that Harmon’s appearance in the credits for the prior season wasn’t a definite decision but rather a consequence of Gibbs not being killed off, despite his character’s absence in subsequent episodes.

Interestingly, Harmon was still prominently featured as part of the regular cast in the press release for the Season 20 premiere and its logline. However, his name was not included in the information for Season 20 Episode 2, leaving fans in anticipation of his future involvement.
