Sean Murray, known for his role in NCIS, shared an amusing anecdote about his stepsister Troian Bellisario’s initial behavior towards him when they first met. The two became stepsiblings in 1998 when Murray’s mother married Bellisario’s father, Donald P. Bellisario, a producer and screenwriter.
Murray revealed in a recent Entertainment Weekly interview that Bellisario seemed “a little weird” around him at first. It was later disclosed that her initial awkwardness was due to a childhood crush on Murray, stemming from seeing him in the 1993 fantasy comedy film Hocus Pocus when she was eight and he was 14. In the film, Murray played Thackery Binx, the human boy turned black cat.
“It always cracks me up,” Murray commented on his former heartthrob status. Despite Hocus Pocus having a poor box office opening and receiving negative reviews initially, the film has gained cult status over the years.
Reflecting on the movie’s enduring popularity, Murray shared, “I was seeing the kids that grew up on Hocus Pocus, they now have kids, and they’re showing their kids Hocus Pocus. It’s really cool seeing the second generation discover Hocus Pocus and be like, ‘You know what? This is like the greatest Halloween movie ever made.'”
While a sequel, Hocus Pocus 2, was released in 2022, Murray was not involved. He expressed understanding, stating, “To me, Hocus Pocus is really about those three women, those three witches. It actually makes total sense to me that you would have a newer group with the witches and not necessarily from the original group. You know, we’re all old and wrinkled now. Who wants to see us?”
