Cote de Pablo and Michael Weatherly are set to reprise their roles as Ziva David and Tony DiNozzo in an upcoming Paris-set spinoff of the flagship CBS series NCIS. Weatherly’s return to the main series last week coincided with a tribute to the late David McCallum.
De Pablo departed NCIS in 2013, followed by Weatherly two years later. In the storyline, Tony left the service to raise his and Ziva’s daughter after her supposed death. After Ziva’s return in several guest appearances during season 17, she completed a final mission and reunited with Tony and their daughter in Paris. The new series will continue from there, following the couple as they navigate through Europe while being pursued after Tony’s security company is attacked. They must unravel the mystery of their assailants and rediscover trust in each other to find their unconventional happily ever after.
“We’ve been talking about this story for many years, and now with John McNamara at the helm, we are ready,” said Weatherly and de Pablo in a statement. “The world of Tony and Ziva (and daughter Tali) promises to be an action-packed roller coaster fueled by love, danger, tears, and laughter.”
The spinoff, produced by CBS Studios, will be overseen by McNamara, who also wrote the premiere episode. Joining him as executive producers are the two stars, Laurie Lieser, Christina Strain, and Shelley Meals.
“I’m incredibly excited to step into the NCIS universe with Cote and Michael and thrilled to explore it from a few new angles,” said McNamara. “Given that the franchise is such a global sensation, I think it’s phenomenal that CBS Studios and Paramount+ have given us the green light to shoot in Europe. As to the title of this series, if I told you what it is, I’d be violating the Espionage Act.”
The untitled Paramount+ series will mark the first NCIS show to originate on streaming. With the original series in its 21st season on CBS, and NCIS: Hawai’i airing on Monday nights, the franchise continues to expand. NCIS: Los Angeles and NCIS: New Orleans had lengthy runs on CBS, and NCIS: Sydney, the franchise’s first international edition, premiered in Australia and the U.S. last fall, totaling 993 episodes across the franchise.
De Pablo is represented by UTA and Entertainment 360, while Weatherly is represented by Anonymous Content, Verve, and McKuin Frankel.
